Metal Double-Sheet Detector Efficiently Solves Overlap Feeding Problems in Stamping Robot Automation
As industrial automation advances, robotic automatic loading and unloading are increasingly used in the stamping industry. Because serial stamping lines require periodic loading and unloading of machines and tools, these tasks are not only labor-intensive and repetitive, but also potentially hazardous.
Advantages of Robot Feeding Compared with Manual Feeding
Due to the characteristics of loading and unloading, these tasks are best performed by robots. Compared with manual feeding, the main advantages of robotic loading and unloading are:
1. Robotic loaders operate quickly and flexibly, with low inertia, strong versatility, high repeatability and positioning accuracy, and can run continuously for long periods.
2. Using robots for loading and unloading increases automation and labor productivity of stamping lines, reduces operator workload, improves working conditions, lowers costs, ensures product quality, and raises productivity.
3. In harsh processing environments such as casting, forging and heat treatment, manual feeding can seriously harm workers’ health. Robots do not tire, are not afraid of hazards, and can lift heavy parts beyond human capacity, making them better suited for harsh environments.
Frequent Overlap Feeding Issues in Robotic Automation
While robotic feeding offers many advantages and replaces many shortcomings of manual feeding, overlapping (double-sheet) feeding problems still plague many stamping factories.
Metal Sheet Double-Sheet Detection Solution
Atonm Metal Double-Sheet Detector is developed based on electromagnetic induction principles and can accurately detect single- and double-sheet feeding of stamping blanks, preventing overlapping sheets from entering the stamping process, protecting equipment and maintaining normal production.
The detector consists of a host unit and two probes.
The "transmitter" probe generates an electromagnetic field and the "receiver" probe senses the field. Different metals shield the field differently; when a metal sheet passes through the field, the received signal changes.
The host compares the magnetic field signal with learned reference signals to determine single or double sheets. Because the induction depends on the metal properties, the detector is not affected by light, oil, or coatings.
