What Is SMT? SMT Equipment Overview
What is SMT?
SMT stands for Surface Mount Technology. It enables automated placement of components onto PCBs: pick-and-place machines mount components and reflow ovens solder them, forming the board assemblies used across electronics.
Typical SMT equipment
SMT production: dispensing machines, solder paste printers, pick-and-place (SMT) machines, reflow ovens and wave soldering.
SMT inspection: SPI solder-paste inspection, reflow profile monitors, AOI optical inspection, ICT in-circuit testers, X-RAY inspection and ATE test systems.
SMT peripherals: paste mixers, conveyors, depanelizers, loaders/unloaders and buffering machines.
SMT consumables and parts: thermocouples, heaters, stencils, nozzles, dispense needles, flux, solder paste and feeders.
SMT tools: ESD-safe soldering irons, desoldering stations, reflow ovens and extraction tools.
Cleaning: ultrasonic and PCB cleaning machines.
ESD protection: ESD clothing, tools, transport boxes, packaging and monitors.
