1. Working principle
A recording method similar to tape recording is used: a magnetic head writes strictly periodic magnetic waves onto the magnetic scale (or disk). This process is called magnetic recording and produces the magnetic grating. The distance between adjacent grating waves is the grating wavelength or pitch.
The system noncontact-scans the magnetic field and converts the analog measurement into absolute or incremental output signals. As a complete measurement system, this magnetic measurement technique is suitable for linear and rotary position detection and for rotational angle or speed detection. Magnetic grating solutions excel in harsh industrial environments where stability and repeatability are critical — dust, oil, vibration and temperature are not obstacles.
Integrated magnetic sensors with signal conversion modules provide direct digital outputs. Combined with magnetic scales, they form an open, reliable linear measurement system.
