Color Sensing Technology for Production Line Optimization: Equipment Part Color Detection and Identification

1. Company Introduction

Located in Chengdu, a high-tech enterprise focuses on urban rail transit products and system integration. The customer provides advanced technical solutions to improve production efficiency and product quality. In pursuit of innovation and excellence, the customer adopted the Atonm Color Sensor CL2 to solve equipment part color identification.

2. Project Requirements

The customer needed to identify the color of passing boxes and send the recognition results to a PLC system for further processing. Boxes come in four distinct colors; accurate and fast color detection is critical to their production process.

 3. Solution

To meet the customer requirement, we recommended the Atonm Color Sensor CL2. The sensor offers the following features:

1. Flexible parameter settings: Atonm Color Sensor CL2 allows users to preset up to 8 colors and recognize 4 colors simultaneously. This flexibility enables customization for various application scenarios to meet equipment part color recognition needs.

2. High-speed response: The sensor provides a 200μs response time and, together with various dedicated color probes, can accommodate different sizes and distances. This enables rapid and accurate color recognition on the production line without causing delays.

3. Accurate color recognition: Atonm Color Sensor CL2 uses triple 16-bit RGB light sources to precisely detect subtle color differences of about 2–3 degrees, allowing reliable differentiation even for similar colors.

4. Support for complex scenarios: The sensor supports switching between color mode and light-intensity mode; using RGB comparison and brightness contrast, it handles challenging lighting and subtle color changes while maintaining accuracy.
