Color Identification | Color Sensor Detects Galvanized and Plain Steel Sheets

Project Background:

The customer is a metal stamping manufacturer producing two types of blanks: galvanized sheets and plain (non-galvanized) sheets. These materials sometimes get mixed, and manual inspection before stamping was required to separate them.

To reduce labor costs, the company adopted a color recognition sensor solution.

Challenges:

1. Short detection window: the stamping line runs at high speed, so the sensor must respond quickly.

2. Reflective surfaces: metal sheets are mirror-like, requiring robust color-sensing performance.

Solution:

Use the CL1 Color Sensor with CLH-L41 probe mounted above the conveyor. Configure the sensor to treat plain (non-galvanized) blanks as the target color; when detected, the sensor outputs a signal to divert the piece from the line.
