A CNC machine tool customer needs to detect whether stainless steel pipes are damaged in a specific project. If damage is found, a marker pen is used to mark lines on the pipes, and sensors are then employed to identify these lines and output corresponding signals.
The feeding speed of stainless steel pipes ranges from 0.3 to 0.4 m/s, and the lines drawn by the marker pen are extremely thin (with a line width not exceeding 3mm). This requires the sensor to have high precision and fast response speed, as well as the ability to adapt to possible tilting and distance variations of the pipes.
The Atonm Color Sensor CL4 is adopted. It is built-in with a white LED and customized light-receiving components, and performs detection based on the appearance (color) of the target. The sensor can accurately capture the subtle color differences between the pipes and the marked lines, without being excessively affected by tilting and distance variations. It also allows flexible selection between moving the sensor or the pipes to complete the detection process.
