Laser Displacement Case | Low-cost Filter Counting for an Air Filter Manufacturer in Guangzhou

Project Background

A Guangzhou air filter manufacturer needs quality control for HVAC filters. After introducing a high-flow laser particle counter, yield targets were not met. The cause was inconsistent number of filter layers during stacking: too many or too few filter sheets caused unstable yield. Manual reinspection did not meet the automation requirements, so an automated counting solution was required.

Project Objective

Objective: Accurately control the number of filter sheets in each filter to ensure uniform layer counts.


Solution

Atonm provided a customized laser micro-displacement solution using the LD1-H030 laser displacement sensor installed on the automatic stacking machine to count the filter sheets. The system reliably detects even uneven sheet heights and achieves stable counting.

This solution does not affect the original stacking workflow and offers reasonable retrofit cost, reducing manual operations and improving yield. The system has run stably in production for two years, and the customer confirmed stabilized yield after commissioning.
