What Does Repeatability of a Laser Sensor Represent?
Laser sensors are commonly used precision measurement tools for displacement or position. Besides resolution, repeatability is an important performance metric. Repeatability reflects the consistency and stability of measurements across multiple trials and is a key indicator of measurement reliability.
Repeatability is usually expressed as a percentage or absolute value and indicates the variation between repeated measurements under the same conditions. For example, if a laser sensor has 1% repeatability, measurement results across repeated tests will not differ by more than 1%. Higher repeatability means more stable and reliable measurements.
In practice, repeatability is crucial for ensuring measurement accuracy and consistency, especially in long-term monitoring or high-precision tasks such as precision machining, quality control and scientific research.
Choosing a laser sensor should consider both resolution and repeatability to ensure accurate and reliable measurement results suitable for the intended application.
