Types of Forging and Press Machines

Forging and press machines are mechanical forming equipment used to change the shape of metals by applying pressure and heat. There are many types, including rolling presses, bending machines, shearing machines, stamping presses, plate rolling machines, hydraulic presses, and others. Some regions also refer to them as punch presses. Below we introduce major types and representative domestic manufacturers.

1. Roll forging presses

Roll forging uses rotating dies to shape metal and is suitable for producing long parts such as shafts, twist drills, wrenches, and fasteners. Roll forging equipment is relatively simple, produces stable output with low vibration and noise, and is advantageous for automated, high-efficiency production.

2. Mechanical press forging

Mechanical presses use crank-slider mechanisms driven by flywheels and clutches to drive the ram downward for forming. They are commonly used for a wide range of forging applications and are valued for their production efficiency.

3. Extrusion presses

Hot extrusion presses are widely used to produce aluminum, copper, and other nonferrous tubes and profiles. They are also used for some steel and alloy components. Cold extrusion is suitable for high-volume production of small parts such as battery shells and fittings.

4. Screw presses

Screw presses use a screw-and-nut drive to convert rotary motion into reciprocating ram motion. They are compact and have fewer transmission elements; some types are driven directly by motors and are known for compact structure and reliable operation.

Domestic manufacturers

1. Yangli Group — established in 1998, a major manufacturer of metal forming equipment, supplying presses and automation solutions for automotive, home appliance, and other industries.

2. Wode Group — founded in 1953, producing a wide range of press forming equipment applied in automotive and other sectors.

3. Yangzhou Forging — with decades of experience, focusing on forging equipment development and production for automotive, aerospace, and hardware industries.
