What Causes Inaccurate Feeding in Press Automatic Feeders?

Inaccurate feeding in press automatic feeders is a common malfunction, and it usually occurs due to improper operation or maintenance. What are the specific causes of inaccurate feeding in automatic feeders, and how can they be repaired?

1. Failure to replace dies in time leading to inaccurate feeding

Many operators are first-time users of automatic feeders. After replacing a press die, they often remember to adjust the feeder height (because die height change is obvious), but they neglect to adjust the feeder release angle. This oversight can cause feeding inaccuracies. Operators unfamiliar with the feeder may mistakenly blame the feeder, while the true cause is an incorrect release-angle setting.

2. Incorrect operation causing feeding errors

Precision stamping dies typically include guide pins to correct the length of material fed into the die and ensure stamping accuracy. For this correction to work, the automatic feeder must provide a release mechanism that allows the guide pin to enter the material while the feeder drum is in a relaxed state. The timing of this relaxation corresponds to the feeder's release angle.

3. Unknown operating conditions causing feeding errors

Sometimes, after setting the feed pitch correctly during single-stroke die trials, operators find the feed distance inaccurate during continuous stamping. Many operators are unsure how to resolve this and assume the feeder is faulty. In many cases, the issue does not originate from the feeder itself.

These are common causes of inaccurate feeding and suggested corrective actions. Properly planning feeder operation and maintenance ensures high product precision, faster production and improved yield.
