Automatic Upgrade for Wire Cutting Machine: Color Sensor for Label Detection and Cut Positioning

1. Company Introduction

An Dongguan machinery company manufactures wire and cable equipment since 2005 with a 6000 sqm factory and exports to Southeast Asia, South America and Eastern Europe.

2. Project Requirements

The client required an automated upgrade of a wire cutting machine to cut at specified label positions, so a sensor that accurately locates labels was needed.

3. Solution

Atonm engineers proposed a color-sensor based solution using the Atonm Color Sensor CL1-N3S1 with probe CLH-L40 to detect white labels on battery cells at a detection distance of 10 cm. When the label is detected the sensor outputs a signal to trigger cutting, achieving automated upgrades and reducing manual errors.

The CL1 offers multiple color presets, 200μs response time, multiple probe options and RGB illumination for precise detection.
