Laser Sensor | Glass Flatness Inspection Solution for a Jiangsu Company

Project Background:

The customer manufactures auxiliary wet-process materials and equipment for photovoltaics, including glass. Product quality requires strict glass flatness and uniformity; poor flatness affects adhesion, appearance, sealing, and installation. Controlling glass surface flatness is a key issue.

Project Goal:

Detect glass surface flatness and output alarm when irregularities are found.

Solution:

Engineers specified a customized glass flatness sensor (accuracy 20 μm, measurement range 0–50 mm, PNP output): the Atonm LD1-H030 Laser Sensor. Using triangulation, the sensor measures the distance to the glass as it passes; deviations outside learned thresholds indicate flatness issues and trigger PLC alarms.

The laser transmitter projects visible red laser to the glass surface; the reflected beam is received and processed to compute distance. If the measured distance differs from the learned value, the sensor outputs a signal to PLC and raises an alarm.
