Color Sensor Detecting Black Mark | Color Sensor in Automated Labeling

Project Background

In modern packaging, labeling ensures information transfer and brand presentation. A customer producing cylindrical boxes required a high-speed sensor to detect black marks on boxes and trigger the labeling machine. The sensor must identify black marks quickly and output a switch signal to the labeler to ensure accurate labeling.

Requirements

1. Target: accurately detect black marks on paper boxes.

2. Production speed: 3 seconds per unit.

3. Signal output: sensor must quickly identify black marks and output a digital signal to the labeler.

Solution

Atonm used the CL1 color sensor with S10 probe. The probe is mounted at the side of the line; when a box reaches the labeling station the sensor detects the black mark and outputs a signal to the labeler. The full detect-and-label cycle completes within the 3-second window.

Customer Benefits

1. Improved labeling accuracy: high-precision detection ensures timely and accurate labeling, improving pass rate and brand image.

2. Flexible adaptability: CL1 adapts to different environments and sensitivity can be tuned for various box and label types.

3. Cost reduction: fewer reworks and manual errors lower operating costs over time.
