Atonm Magnetic Scale Read Head Replacing Optical Encoder for Automatic Resistance Welding Equipment

Resistance Welding

Resistance welding uses current passing through the workpieces to generate resistive heat, melting the joint and applying pressure to form a weld. It is widely used in automotive, aerospace and industrial manufacturing, and can be highly automated.

Customer

A welding equipment manufacturer in Dongguan has nearly ten years of experience and strong sales domestically and abroad. Facing rising requirements for modern welding processes and automation, the customer sought improved positioning accuracy and reliability for their equipment.

Spot Welding

Product

To address the issue, the customer selected the Atonm Magnetic Scale Read Head MRR-H200 as a potential replacement. Key features include:

- All-metal housing to protect internal circuitry and ensure long-term stable operation.

- Imported flexible wear-resistant shielded cable to resist mechanical wear and extend service life.

- Anti-interference hardware and firmware design to reliably handle electromagnetic interference generated by high-current welding, ensuring accurate position measurement.

- Multiple resolution options (1μm, 5μm, 10μm) to meet different welding accuracy requirements.

- Strong tolerance to oil, liquids, dust and vibration for stable operation in harsh environments.

Solution

The operating principle of the MRR-H200 differs from optical encoders: the magnetic scale measures position via magnetic field changes while optical encoders rely on optical methods. This fundamental difference makes the magnetic scale more immune to interference in high-current environments.

To ensure stability and accuracy on the customer’s equipment, Atonm added anti-interference features at the chip level, reducing sensor data errors. The all-metal housing and wear-resistant cable further ensure long-term reliability.

Customer Benefits

The MRR-H200 successfully replaced the previously used optical encoder on the automatic resistance welding equipment, delivering clear advantages: improved positioning accuracy, resolved electromagnetic interference issues, reduced costs, and increased production efficiency—ultimately boosting the customer’s competitiveness.
