The customer in this case is a robot R&D and manufacturing company based in Dongguan with a broad product line. Project requirement:

Recently the customer raised a challenging requirement to Atonm. Their robot needs to perform stack detection for sheet-metal covers picked by suction cups. These sheet-metal covers have irregular shapes and a single-sheet thickness of about 1mm. Under high-speed operation the robot must reliably detect presence/absence and any double-feeds to ensure stable and high-quality feeding.

Solution:

To meet the requirement, we recommended the MDSC-900E Metal Double-Sheet Detector. This device supports a broad thickness range (0.1–2.5mm) across different materials and can operate at speeds up to 600 checks per minute, enabling the robot to quickly and accurately detect double-feeds.

In addition to high-speed detection, the solution uses non-contact sensing. The robot does not physically touch the sheet during detection, avoiding potential material damage or wear. This non-contact approach preserves efficiency while protecting product integrity.
